Glamorama (2022)

Glamorama is a process-based textile installation inspired by music albums. Through discussions on music with friends, peers and acquaintances, as a way of understanding how others think about music, Glamorama explores their feedback through my own perspective of selected music albums: Return of Saturn by No Doubt, After Hours by The Weeknd, and Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos. Although these albums hold significance in my life, I gravitated towards experimentation as I crafted a love letter to these albums without the inclusion of lyrics, symbolism and meaning.

The music discussions involved questions on what song or album the individual listened to lately; if they associated songs and/or albums with a memory, feeling, or colour; three songs they would choose to listen to on a deserted island; and various music-based questions, which were different for each person. These discussions were an important part of my process as conversing about music gave me the motivation to continue this project, since I am usually inspired by others. After our discussion, I kept our conversation in mind while making each textile. I also listened to the respective albums while creating: Return of Saturn: The Reinvention of I, After Hours (and Hours and Hours), and Little Earthquakes: Unearthing Vulnerability.

And as a thank you to the individuals who inspired me throughout my process, I created various CD Liner Notes (or CD Zines) and included quotes from our discussions.

Special thanks to my dad, who introduced me to burning music onto CDs when I was younger.
